There is still time to register for joining in this year’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning which raises funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

So far, over 3,000 people in Suffolk and Norfolk have signed up to take part, including in Diss, Pulham St Mary, and Palgrave, as well as Eye, Worlingworth, Roydon and Mellis, with coffee mornings arranged for next weekend.

The official event day is Friday, September 27, but Macmillan says it is happy for people to hold their coffee morning on any day that suits.

Macmillan’s fundraising manager for the area, Mandy Jordan said: “We are really grateful to everyone who has signed up to hold a coffee morning for Macmillan so far. Their support is very much appreciated and we hope they have a fantastic time at their event.” Last year, 115,000 people around the UK took part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, raising a record £15 million.

The ball is set rolling tomorrow at Greenacre, 1 Farm Close, in Roydon, where Joan Green will be holding a Cheese, Wine and Coffee Evening in a marquee. The entrance fee of £5 includes a glass of wine or beer and cheese and biscuits. There will also be a sale of cakes, preserves and plants, a raffle, tombola and games, plus free tea, coffee and cold drinks, running from 7pm to 11.30pm.

Then next Friday, there are coffee mornings at The Pennoyer Centre, Pulham St Mary, from 10am to noon and at Worlingworth Community Centre from 10am to noon. Boots chemists in Diss will be offering homemade cakes by staff (no coffee) when the store opens and there are also coffee mornings at The Old Rectory, Mellis Road, Burgate, 8.30am to noon, and at St Mary’s Church Room, Newton Flotman, 8.45am to 5pm; with fundraisers at St Edmunds Hall, Hoxne, holding their coffee morning on Saturday, September 29, from 10am to noon.

The Roydon White Hart is opening early at 10am next Friday for fresh coffee, while the annual coffee morning usually organised by Barbara Bullock at Yaxley Village Hall this year switches to The Limes Retirement Home, in Earlsford Road, Mellis, from 10am to noon.
