A village radio station is hosting its first music festival as a thank-you for the community’s support.

Broadcaster Radio Stradbroke has planned a Music Day on the playing fields in Wilby Road for July 13.

Presenter Michael Hugman said: “It’s giving back something to the community and people who have supported us.

“It’s a free event with a relaxed vibe and people can come and go as they want. Our mission statement is to promote local talent who perhaps just don’t get the opportunity to play otherwise.”

The 15 confirmed acts at the free one-day Music Day event include award-winning songwriter Lisa Redford, Starston artist Breeze Redwine and indie-pop singer Robin Shaw, from Bressingham.

The team of six at Radio Stradbroke hopes to make it an annual event.

“Hopefully, it’s here to stay,” said Mr Hugman. “It’s something different that we haven’t had in Stradbroke until the Stradisphere Festival came along.”

Stradisphere ran for five years before organisers made the “heart-wrenching” decision to pull the plug due to continuing losses.
