Hoxne Swan Inn making preparations to welcome back customers

A pub is preparing to welcome back customers in a few weeks time by making some new additions to what it has to offer.

Preparations are in full swing at The Swan Inn in Hoxne, which has been run by Lisa Marie Anthony and husband Mick since September 2019, as it prepares to reopen in style on April 12.

Mr Anthony, 51, said: “We need to make sure the outside environment is comfortable and as close to the pub environment as possible. This has meant an outlay on marquees to ensure this it’s a heated, lit area.

“We’ve listened to feedback from our customers and have incorporated a sports and social area. This includes the usual pool table and darts board, but we’ve added a golf simulator.

“It means you can be in the comfort of the barn and play any course in the world, with drinks on tap.

“Social distancing is still a major consideration, so table booking will help us to plan and accommodate everyone safely.”

As well as planning for the grand reopening, the couple are also looking ahead to the summer and hope to host garden entertainment, a fete, a village ball and charity fun days, along with constructing an al fresco dining area beside the river.

“We’re trying to get back to the old community spirit, with garden fetes and charity fun days in aid of the Hoxne church bells restoration project,” said Mr Anthony.

“It will include a garden party, kids entertainment, a barbecue and a major prize raffle.

“The fun day will be on July 24, followed by a village ball on September 18, when the raffle will be drawn.

“We have a great relationship with our customers and we’ve all missed out on a number of major occasions and special events in the last year, albeit for a good reason.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the support from our locals since we arrived and miss the faces of those we now consider friends.

“The last 10 months has, however allowed us to implement feedback from our regulars and we hope that everyone will come to support us on April 12.
