The Greyhound pub picks up Travellers’ Choice award thanks to online customer reviews
A Botesdale pub has picked up an award in recognition of its exceptional online ratings over the past 12 months.
Last week, staff at The Greyhound, in The Street, were told that they had picked up the Travellers’ Choice 2021 award – thanks to the volume of glowing reviews submitted online by customers.
While the pub doors where shut during lockdown, staff at the pub managed to keep customers sweet by offering an authentic, wood-fired pizza delivery service.
For manager Jack Sexton, news of the award victory came in the same week that he celebrated his third year with the pub.
“It was a double celebration for me,” said the 27-year-old, who lives upstairs in the pub. “It came as a complete surprise.
“With everything that has been going on, TripAdvisor reviews have been the last thing we’ve been thinking about, but it was really nice to have so much support from the community.
“We were lucky that when lockdown came the first time around, we were all geared up to do the takeaways.
“Everyone kicked into gear to do the pizzas and this just shows the customers have appreciated it.”
Chris Burnard, who has owned the pub since 2004, said the award will give some well-deserved recognition to his staff, who have worked tirelessly over the past 18 months.
“We’re thrilled to have been given this,” said the 58-year-old. “It’s wonderful that our customers value what we do because our team really has been outstanding.
“We have really given it blood, sweat and tears over the last year, after having the rug pulled from under our feet, just like many other hospitality business.
“It’s great to have some positive feedback. We’re a relatively small, local pub, but we’ve worked hard over the years to build up an excellent reputation.
“While we’re very well-known locally, not many people further afield know about us and recognition like this will really help to put both Botesdale and us on the map.”
