Plans for new takeaway outside The Vine Inn, in High Street, Hopton, near Diss, lodged with West Suffolk Council

Plans for a new takeaway unit outside a village pub have been lodged.

C Hindley has applied to West Suffolk Council to build the property in the front yard of The Vine Inn, in High Street, Hopton, near Diss.

A design and access statement outlining the proposals said a fish and chip shop down the road from the pub will be closing soon, and it is hoped the new takeaway could replace it.

The statement said the chip shop was a ‘small and successful business’ which has served the village for many years, and building the new unit would facilitate the retention of the ‘much enjoyed village amenity’.

It highlighted it would equally benefit the pub by creating a food offering on site. The statement said pubs which have closed in recent years tend to need to have a food offering to keep the business financially viable.

It is expected the hot food takeaway on site would compliment the pub well.

The takeaway would operate separately to the pub and, as such, would not have to be open at the same time as it.

It will be fitted with a suitable extractor system and appropriate filters, grease traps and sound attenuation to meet environmental health requirement and reduce impacts on neighbours, the statement said.

Floor plans submitted with the application detail a level access entrance which opens onto a customers waiting area, sectioned off in the middle by a frier and serving counter.

To the right of the building would be a store and prep area that would be walled off from the public.

The takeaway unit would not be in the pub’s main car park, which is to the back of it.
