PICTURE GALLERY: Thorpe Abbotts flies high with Masters of the Air-inspired event

Visitors from far and wide came to an event taking a step back in time.

The Thorpe Abbotts Masters of the Air-themed family event on August 10 saw vehicles, traditional games, music and costumes from the 1940s come to the village hall.

Carol Hitchman, chairwoman of the Thorpe Abbotts Village Hall Committee, said the day had been a huge success.

“It was a fantastic day organised by the committee,” she said.

“Because the Apple TV series was based in and around Thorpe Abbots, we as a committee and the village as a whole wanted to celebrate that.

“We wanted to show people from here and further afield our beautiful village, its history and links to Masters of the Air.”

The day raised £2,782.49 for the 70-year-old village hall.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along, donated prizes and gave their time,” said Carol.

“Also, a special thanks to the village hall committee who worked their socks off.

“We wanted to put Thorpe Abbotts on the map and I think we did with this lovely day.”
