Harleston’s Christmas lights switch-on event lights up the town

A Christmas lights switch-on and festive market saw around 1,000 people come out to Harleston town centre for festive fun.

The event featured a range of stalls for people to get Christmas treats as well as fun activities, while former EastEnders actress and Park Radio presenter Sophie Lawrence pushing the plunger to light up the town.

Zoe Moyse, treasurer for Harleston’s Future, said: “The Christmas Market and Lights Switch-On was a great success, with many commenting about how great the day was.

“We have already had a few inquires on a possible date for next year as combining the market and switch-on is always well attended.”

The event also had a Christmas tombola to win a Christmas hamper, with items donated by some of the town’s businesses and residents.

There was also a pre-loved stall with donated toys, games and other items, which were said to be well-received by families who left with happy, smiling children.

The treasurer added: “Harleston Round Table were in Exchange Street with their lovely sleigh and Santa’s magical grotto, within Harleston Information Plus, was extremely busy all day, where they eventually ran out of presents.

“We want to thank everyone for coming and those who helped make this event special, including Redenhall with Harleston Town Council for their support closing roads on the day.

“Also to JD Young’s Hotel who donated the Christmas tree again this year. They also provided us with the electricity on the day. Everyone’s help is hugely appreciated.”
