Pans at the ready as chefs from The White Horse in South Lopham set to battle it out

A pair of chefs at a village pub are set to battle it out in a tasty showdown for the ultimate kitchen bragging rights.

In what is being dubbed as ‘the culinary showdown of the year’, Lee Spinks, head chef at The White Horse in South Lopham, and his sous chef Adam Leonard will go pan to pan to find out who is the best.

Pub owner James Neale, who took over pub in November 2020, said he thinks the cook off – set to take place on the evening of May 15 – will combine a sprinkling of fun with a dash of kitchen rivalry.

“Since taking Lee on as our head chef, we have been improving and expanding our food offering over the last six months, ” he said. “We wanted to do something unique to really put our food on the map.

“We have already done three tasting evenings, which went down very well with customers and have been very popular, so we thought we would do something a little different this time.

“The chefs have come up with the idea themselves. They have really got into the spirit of it and I think it is going to be a great night.”

Each chef will cook and serve three themed courses, with the pub’s customers set to judge all six on presentation, creativity and taste, before the scores are then totted up to find a winner.

“Even though we have started our new menu this week, I have always been keen for our chefs to experiment with new ideas,” said Mr Neale.

“This has let them do that as it gives them scope to let their imaginations run wild.

“They are really excited ahead of the cook-off and, even though they work really well together, they will definitely be going all out to win as they both want the kitchen bragging rights at the end.”
