Power supply problems have dogged the opening week of the new BP Station at Stuston, it has emerged.

The petrol station, which opened on May 22, saw hundreds of customers on its first day.

BP had to close for a period, however, the day after, due to the power supply issues.

Power issues have been suggested as one of the reasons McDonald's, which had to open at the same time as BP station and M&S Simply food, has been delayed.

The fast-food company has refused to comment however saying it was still "committed" to building the drive-through.

A spokesman for BP, said today: "We’re very pleased that our new site is now open and hope our customers will enjoy the facilities it is now offering the community.

"There have been some initial issues with the power supply to the site – and we shut the site briefly on Thursday – but we have a temporary solution in place using onsite generators to ensure our service isn’t interrupted.

"We’re working to resolve the issues as rapidly as possible."

It is unclear at this stage if the supply issues are affecting the whole site.

M&S have been approached from comment.
