Norfolk roads given extra £15m by the Government for county’s roads
Norfolk is set to receive more than £56 million in funding for highways maintenance, the Government has announced.
The money will be used on roads that are in most need of repair to deliver immediate fixes for communities.
Graham Plant, the county council’s cabinet member for highways, infrastructure and transport said: “Norfolk’s allocation is very welcome news and is around £15 million more than we were expected, thanks to the additional funding being invested.
“We are ambitious for the county and this money will support us in continuing our proactive approach to highways maintenance, which aims to prevent potholes from forming across our highways.”
The authority said that more than 5,300 potholes had been fixed across Norfolk since April and, of those, 99 per cent were repaired within the agreed response times.
In Suffolk, the Government allocated £11.7 million, bringing its total funding for 2025/26 to £43.7 million.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said: “Broken roads can risk lives and cost families hundreds if not thousands of pounds on repairs. That’s a cost that can easily be avoided by investing properly in our roads.
“That is why we’re giving councils funding, through our Plan for Change, to repair our roads and get Britain moving again, with a clear expectation that they get on with the job.”
The funding comes as part of a £1.6 billion investment across the country – an increase of nearly 50 per cent on road maintenance funding.
