New day care service is launched in Diss
A new day care facility has opened for adults with learning disabilities.
The DissCovery centre has been opened at Heywoods Grange in Burston Road, Diss.
Heywoods Grange was founded as a residential home for adults with learning disabilities in 1997 and is now home to 10 residents.
It provides specialist, personal care to promoting lifestyle, physical and mental health, confidence and self-esteem.
Residents have conditions such as autism, epilepsy or a form of dementia.
The day care service has been set up as a separate business venture and will provide care for people aged 18 and over from the Diss and wider area, helping some on the road to independent living.
“At the moment, the home employs nine staff and, as we build up the day care service, we will be looking to take on more volunteers and paid staff to run that side of the service, too,” said project manager Rebecca Laughlin.
“We have also won Norfolk County Council accreditation. Activities will include everything from hobbies, crafts and trips out.”
