Multiple crews were sent to a barn fire in Victoria Mill Road, Framlingham, at 1.20pm today.

When crews from Woodbridge and Stradbroke arrived at the scene, they discovered asbestos was involved and requested more resources and the water carrier from Leiston.

Crews from Saxmundham, Leiston and the command unit from Woodbridge were then sent, along with a specialist hazardous materials officer.

The barn, all of which was involved in the fire, was a detached, single-storey building containing furniture.

It measured 18 metres by six metres, with 50 per cent of its roof made from asbestos cement sheeting.

Fire crews removed two cylinders from inside and used three hose reels to extinguish the blaze.

All were back at base by about 3.45pm.
