Mid-Suffolk Railway hosts mini Marcia for exhibition

The Mid-Suffolk Light Railway had a very special guest last weekend – the smallest steam locomotive ever to grace its tracks.

Marcia, a 99-year-old Peckett 0-4-0T from the Kent and East Sussex Railway, was the star of the show as the venue hosted a vintage and bygones fair.

Built in 1923 at the Atlas Works in Bristol, the dinky engine tips the scales at just 12 tons, but that did not stop her from hauling passenger trains along the line in Wetheringsett.

Away from the tracks, visitors enjoyed musical boxes, planetary clocks and vintage clothing from down the years.

Marketing manager John Reeve said: “Despite the rain, I was pleased with how busy we were and we will be running the event again next year. I would like to thank everyone who came along on the day.”

The museum’s next open day is on New Year’s Day when it will host its Steam and Light event. No tickets needed – simply pay at the ticket office.
