An outline planning application for 56 new homes in Mendlesham has been given the green light by Mid Suffolk District Council, pending a section 106 agreement.

The plans, for Old Station Road, would feature six affordable homes, and see the demolition of all the current properties on the GR Warehousing site. It would see nine two-bedroom homes, 38 three-bed houses, and nine four-bedroom dwellings built.

In background papers to the authority, Mendlesham Parish Council stated they recommended approval to the application following “much discussion”.

Sharon Jones, parish council clerk, said in comments back to Mid Suffolk: “This was not a unanimous decision and we still have reservations and observations that would need to be resolved by the full planning application. The development of 56 units is larger than the residents of Mendlesham want, with up to 20-30 units preferred by a significant majority, as evidenced as part of our emerging Neighbourhood Plan.”
