Mendham lives up to ‘most active’ tag and now boasts a French connection
Mendham lived up to its reputation as Suffolk’s “most active” village when a new boules piste was officially opened.
As well as the opening ceremony, villagers and visitors were kept busy in boules and rounders contests.
In the boules, Mendham’s Honeylanes team was just beaten in the final by Bungay Auspoms. Third place went to Starston’s Old Gits and fourth was another Starston team, the Glamorous Ladies.
In the rounders there was home success for Mendham and Withersdale who beat Starston in the final to retain the trophy.
The boules piste was the first choice of Mendham and Withersdale residents when they were consulted on how to spend the money which came from successes in 2014 in the Mid Suffolk and Suffolk Village of the Year competitions and the open Spaces Awards. The opening was performed by parish council chairman Denis Pye and Suffolk Sport’s Ben Jackson.
The afternoon was organised by Mendham and Withersdale Community Council whose spokesman said: “The parish enjoyed a lovely day. Thank you to everyone who helped at the event. Mendham is extremely proud to add a boules piste to all the other facilities we have on offer in our villages. This is a great facility for people of all ages to use.”
