The Diss Express received an email from the other side of the world revealing a stash of photos relating to Burston and Gissing.

Helen Grant, of Sydney, Australia emailed this and other photos of scenes from her ancestral roots.

She said: “My grandmother was born on Crown Farm on Mill Road. Her father built the place. As much as I know, they bred work horses and raised cattle.”

Crown Farm still stands today. William Carter and his wife Sarah are buried in the church yard not far down the road.

“I come to the UK every so often and walk around the place. My cousins still live in the area.

“My grandmother fell in love with an Australian and went to live in Australia in 1903.

“Her family sent her letters and photos of home. She also kept a journal of her journey here.”

Unfortunately she knows little about the photos but would like some help from knowledgeable Diss Express readers.

She has many more pictures and added: “All her albums have been kept safe by her daughter Myra Grace. When she died the albums came to me. In the last year I have digitised them.”
