MEMORY LANE: Mystery idyllic cottage

Treasured photos from the Burston and Gissing area are once again featured in this week’s Memory Lane.

Helen Grant, of Sydney, Australia, has a number of pictures and postcards that belonged to her late grandmother Sarah Watling Carter, who was born at Crown Farm in Burston.

This week’s picture is a house referred to as Rose Cottage. Although it is in the stash of photos from the area, Mrs Grant knows nothing about it, so it may not be in Burston or Gissing.

This picturesque cottage would surely be recognisable to someone.

Her grandmother emigrated to Australia in 1903 after falling in love with an Australian.

Her family kept in touch and sent photos from the area to remind her of home, which she kept.

Can you help? Where do you think this photo was taken? What do you know about Rose Cottage?
