Mrs Baines said the group did a quarter peel at St Mary’s Church in Diss to raise funds for the St Paul’s Cathedral choir school in London.

Because they raised the most in a national campaign, they were given an all-expenses paid trip to London. The picture is of the group at Diss rail station ready to depart for the capital, on September 20.

They visited St Paul’s Cathedral, visited the Whitechapel bell foundry, and had tea with the Lord Mayor of London.

Mrs Baines said: “I remember the trip very well. We saw the bells at St Paul’s but the only thing was we could not ring them!”

They were also given small crystal bells with St Paul’s on them as a keepsake.
