MEMORY LANE: Group shot Denmark Arms, Diss
There is always one...
This group is about to set off from the Denmark Arms in Diss on an outing – and, judging by the smiles on their faces, they are all looking forward to it.
Apart from the figure on the extreme right.
Although he has dressed up for the day in his double-breasted suit, trilby and polished shoes, he does not seem to be sharing the anticipation of the rest of the pub regulars and rather looks like he would prefer to be somewhere else (perhaps back in bed and not making an early start on what we assume is a Sunday excursion).
The picture is another from Dennis Cross’ collection and we know that landlord Ted Fryer is seen with the pub dartboard.
So presumably, there is some darts connection with the outing.
On the left and right of the front row are Mrs Barker and Doreen Shulver, and on the left of the back row are Mr and Mrs Tressy Ward.
Fourth from the left, we are told, is Mr Barker, and seventh a Mr Clematis, if that name is correct.
Further along the back row are Spencer Cross and Archie Aldous.
