Long Stratton man failed to stop and fled vehicle in drink-driving incident
A man who failed to stop for police before fleeing his vehicle has been banned from driving after pleading guilty to drink-driving.
Jamie Newson, 24, from Long Stratton, entered a guilty plea to drink-driving at Norwich Magistrates Court yesterday and was sentenced to a 20-month driving ban, a fine of £440, £105 costs and a £176 victim surcharge.
The sentence relates to an incident on June 17, in which Newson failed to stop shortly after midnight, before leaving his vehicle and fleeing the scene.
He was arrested five minutes later by officers on suspicion of drink-driving, and provided an evidential breath sample of double the legal limit – recorded at 72 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
