Little Movers in Diss lives up to its name by making switch to bigger site

A town business has stayed true to its name by moving to new premises – next door.

Camping supply shop Little Movers has made the short move along Station Road to occupy a site on the corner of Victoria Road.

Owner Harry Eves said the shop had come up in August last year and he jumped at the chance to make the switch.

He said: “It occupies a more prominent position on the road, and offers more space for us to display stock. When the landlord said it was going to be available, we thought ‘why not’?”

“We had outgrown our other unit; we had filled every space we possibly could and started having to stack stock on top of each other.

“We had no mains water supply and had to use a portaloo, so we have a few more creature comforts now.”

Originally started by John Rumsey from a wooden shed in 1978, the business – then called Waveney Leisure – was purchased by Harry’s dad, Phil, in 2000, when Mr Rumsey retired.

“My dad would import Japanese vans with electric roofs and made convert them into mini campers, which is where the name came from,” said his son.

“I worked here as a 15-year-old as a Saturday boy before moving on. When dad retired about four years ago, I returned to take it over.”

The 35-year-old said that the business owed its longevity to word of mouth, its loyal customer base and a great team of staff.

“We have always been known as ‘that shop up Station Road’ and we have Ryan Ellis, who has been here for 10 years, and Jamie Johnson, who has been here more than 20; they have both helped to make the business what it is now,” Mr Eves told the Diss Express.

“We have some customers that have been with us since 1978 and, without them, we would not be where we are now.

“So we really thank everyone for the support they have given us, and hope they like our new place.”
