Oh the irony, a mother is campaigning to get a pedestrian crossing built to improve safety at school times in Skelton Road (We need a crossing, February 19).

Despite being supported by the town council it was the county council who were dragging their feet over the £75,000 cost.

I may have a solution since the same page also featured the proposed multi-million pound Frenze Road development, which would have a direct impact on Skelton Road were it to go ahead.

For many reasons, too many to mention, I sincerely hope the proposed development fails to be approved, however, if it does succeed, can I suggest that the county planners make it a condition that the housing developers pay for the pedestrian crossing.
