“We really want to thank our customers for their long and loyal support over the past 57 years.

“We could not have done it without the help of our two assistants, Sheila Hawes and Tracey Peters.

“The time is now right for us to retire. This is the end of an era.”

Irene and David Spall said they owed a special debt to their assistants, Sheila Hawes and Tracey Peters.

The village shop and post office has been a vital lifeline for the community. During the pandemic, it continued to provide essential services, serving customers through a window and using a butterfly net to take payments.

Shervorne Page, area manager for Post Office Ltd, said: “I wish David and Irene Spall a well-earned retirement.”
