“People are often surprised by the change but less so when I tell them I wanted to do something for the community, to give back to people, and that’s what I am doing.

“The more I researched the library service the more I realised the amazing work it does in a number of fields, not just borrowing books.

“For some people, it might be the only people they see in the week, or it is a lifeline for people perhaps who have just moved to an area, or perhaps have have mental health troubles, or even people fleeing domestic violence.

“It is here for everyone, whatever age and it’s that, that I wanted to be part of.”

Diss library has just had new heating installed and the library is to hold a taster session for its services today.

Adrian Ramsay, Diss Town Council and the Mayor will be in attendance.

“The old system needed replacing and the one we have now is much more efficient,” said Kelly.

“I’m in charge of three libraries and and they are all different.

“Diss is very community focused, Harleston is very much a town service, and Long Stratton lots of ins and outs, with its position on a main road.

“We have five assistants in Diss, four in Harleston, and two in Long Stratton. They are all fantastic and run the places brilliantly.”

The libraries, which are run by Norfolk County Council Library Service, are running a Summer Reading Challenge for children and adults between July 15 and September 13.

On completion, people will receive and a medal and a certificate.

“I hope to get as many people coming to libraries as possible, for lots of reasons,” said Kelly.
