Inspired by the family and friends he has lost to cancer, Keith Yaxley is determined to complete his first ever London Marathon.
Mr Yaxley, 43, of Mellis, was emailed by Cancer Research UK to take part in this year’s event, something which he had always wanted to do.
The married father of two said: “Because I have had friends and family who have died of cancer, it is something very close to my heart.
“I have done four half marathons but I have always strived to do a full marathon.”
Mr Yaxley, a technician for Anglian Water, has been running four times a week in preparation for the marathon, on April 26, and even bought a treadmill so he could continue his training in the winter months. He is a familiar sight around the lanes of Mellis and beyond, running with his equally fit terrier-cross dog Lola.
“The whole family is more active now,” said Mr Yaxley.
“I’d love to do the marathon in four-and-a-half hours, and I want to raise about £1,000.”
He thanked all who had supported him so far.

A fundraising coffee morning is being held prior to the marathon at the Park Hotel in Diss, on April 21, from 10am-noon. It features a quirky history talk.
