Diss Rugby Club ‘minis’ make town proud at Doncaster Knights tournament

Junior town rugby players got the chance to pit their skills against clubs from across the country after a successful fund-raising campaign.

Teams from the mini section of Diss Rugby Club went on tour to Doncaster Knights Rugby Club after individuals and businesses donated to get them there.

Six age groups from under seven to under twelve took on teams from Liverpool, York, Sheffield, Doncaster and the surrounding area.

Andy Ralls, one of the under 11s coaches for the club, said: “We were welcomed at the club on Sunday and there were some huge players against our Diss teams but what we lacked in size was more than made up by our heart, courage, and teamwork.

“Everyone from all age groups had a fantastic weekend and really enjoyed both the rugby and the social activities.

“This could not have happened without people helping us with our fund-raising, we want to thank everyone who put their hands in their pockets to donate with special thanks going to Wrightfield Pools who sponsored the under 11s both for this tour and for this season and Rosedale Funeral Home who have sponsored the under 9s.”

During the tournament, the teams from Diss played played 29 games with the club only losing five of those.

Mr Ralls said: “The coaches and parents at Diss RFC are so very proud of the players for how they conducted themselves whilst on tour at Doncaster Knights and of the quality display of rugby.”
