Journalism heavyweights, Martha Kearney and Chris Shaw, go toe-to-toe for Wortham Church fundraiser
A church roof fundraiser, which allowed attendees to find out about the fast-paced world of the media from a pair of broadcasting heavyweights, raised more than £1,000.
The Friends of Wortham Church hosted Martha Kearney, of BBC’s World at One and Woman’s Hour, and Chris Shaw, of Channel 4 News and ITN, as part of its St Mary’s Roof Appeal, which is hoping to raise £150,000.
Mrs Kearney, who is also a patron of the appeal, said: “Chris and I chose to interview each other about our media careers, mine in front of the camera and microphone, and Chris as an Oscar-nominated news producer.
“I have interviewed every prime minister since Margaret Thatcher, so Chris knew he was not in for an easy ride.”
The appeal, which added more than £1,000 to its total after the night, has already topped £55,000 so far.
Mrs Kearney added: “St Mary’s is dear to me and Chris and all our neighbours.
“We are all committed to passing it on to the next generation.”
