A heavily intoxicated man died from head injuries after apparently falling down stairs at his home in Wattisfield, an inquest has heard.

The body of Anthony Lord, 64, was found by a police officer who had gone to the house in Diss Road on March 15 last year.

Family members had raised concerns about Mr Lord's welfare after being unable to contact him for several days.

The inquest today (Monday) at Suffolk Coroners Court in Ipswich heard that Mr Lord, who was found at the foot of the stairs, was confirmed dead at the scene by a paramedic.

A post mortem examination showed that Mr Lord died as a result of a bleed on the brain caused by a head injury sustained during a fall.

Tests also showed that Mr Lord had more than four times the drink-drive limit of alcohol in his body at the time of his death.

Assistant Suffolk Coroner Dr Daniel Sharpstone said that level of intoxication carried a risk of coma and would affect judgement, balance and coordination.

Dr Sharpstone recorded a conclusion that Mr Lorx died as a result of the consequences of a fall.
