Diss IOPC investigation: The Independent Office for Police Conduct appeals for witnesses to Diss incident last week

The Independent Office for Police Conduct has appealed for witnesses to an incident in Diss in which a man died after being detained.

The man was detained by Norfolk Police under the Mental Health Act on Victoria Road on Monday, shortly after midday.

After becoming seriously ill, he was taken to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, where he died at 12.10am on Tuesday.

After a mandatory referral from Norfolk Police, the IOPC sent investigators to the scene and gathered statements and CCTV footage.

IOPC Regional Director Sarah Green said: “My thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic incident.Our role when someone has died following police contact is to establish all of the circumstances surrounding how the incident occurred. We are continuing to gather evidence and are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and may have witnessed something.”
