‘I really can’t thank the NHS enough’: breast cancer survivor gives her support to hospital ward with fund-raising walk

With the worst of her treatment behind her, breast cancer survivor Deidre Wilson-Kent is taking on a charity walking challenge with her friend Barry Fortune to support Norfolk and Norwich hospital’s new ward via the Boudicca Breast Cancer Appeal.

The pair will set off from Norwich train station on September 14, walking 18 miles, before walking another 18 miles to Diss station the following day.

“I had breast cancer last year and other health problems and I really can’t thank the NHS enough,” said the 61-year-old, from Wortwell.

“I like walking and the most I’ve done in a day is 10 miles, so it’s a challenge, but I really want to give something back.

“I’m so indebted to the staff at the hospital as it could have easily been a different story. I hoped to raise £500, but we’ve already passed that, which is great.”
