Waveney Valley MP, Adrian Ramsay, of the Green Party, has voted in favour of the assisted dying bill
Parliament voted today to accept the third reading of the assisted dying bill.
Titled the Terminally Ill Adults (End Of Life) Bill, 314 MPs voted in favour of the motion while 291 voted no –a majority of 23.
It was a ‘conscience vote’; which means the different parties did not ‘whip’ their representatives into voting in a certain way, but they were ‘free’ to vote for what they felt was right for them and their constituents.
Waveney Valley MP, Adrian Ramsay, of the Green Party, voted in favour.
He said: “I listened carefully to assisted dying debate. Thanks to the many constituents, party members and groups who've shared moving experiences and evidence.
“I scrutinised the safeguards and decided to vote in favour. I believe people at the end of life have a right to choose how they die.
“Like all MPs, I voted based on my conscience and weighing up the evidence, and I felt the full weight of doing so on such a deeply serious matter
“This matter must now be progressed with the utmost care & safety, alongside crucial improvements to the availability of palliative care.”
