Huge fire at Metfield farm today may have been ignited deliberately

An enormous fire which took more than five hours to bring under control at a north Suffolk farm this morning may have been ignited deliberately, investigators claim.

More than 50 firefighters using over a dozen fire engines were required to quell the blaze at an agricultural business based in The Common, Metfield, first reported at approximately 1.47am today.

The fire is believed to have started in a building used for straw bedding manufacture, before the flames spread to three more nearby buildings.

No injuries to any people or animals have been reported, and the blaze is said to have been brought under control shortly after 7am.

Police officers are now investigating the scene and have stated they are treating the incident as suspicious.

Anybody with information about how the fire may have begun should contact Suffolk Police by calling 101.
