Wortham holiday lodges plan thrown out after backlash from villagers

Controversial plans to create a number of permanent holiday lodges on a former campsite have been rejected.

An application to build new structures at Honey Pot Farm Caravan Park in Wortham has been thrown out by Mid Suffolk District Council.

Under the plans, 24 timber cabins would have been sited on the Bury Road site, with two parking spaces allocated for each plot.

But villagers complained that, although the site may have had permission for up to 35 touring caravans and tents since 1975, it had not been used for that purpose for around a decade.

Other issues included vehicle access to the site, an increase in light pollution and fears that the local sewerage system would not be able to cope with the extra demand.

In a letter of opposition to the council, one villager said: “This scheme seems to be driven by the greed of someone who is not a resident in the area and could not care less what a negative effect it will have, purely the positive effect it will have on their bank account.”
