Diss High School students get taste of Far East culture with Japan trip

Students have returned from a trip of a lifetime after spending a week in Japan.

The group of sixth formers from Diss High School stayed in Osaka, the financial centre of Japan and home to 2.7 million people.

During the trip, the teenagers stayed with host families, went to high school, visited a Kyoto temple, met an A-bomb survivor in Hiroshima, travelled on a bullet train and visited the Tsunami and Storm Surge Disaster Protection Scheme.

The Year 13 students, who were accompanied by assistant headteacher Duncan Somers, head of Year 11 Christine Kelly and head of modern languages Catherine Miles, were chosen to take part in The Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation’s annual Japan Experience Study Tour programme.

The initiative, which started in 2002, funds pupils from one UK school to visit the country and give them a direct experience of Japanese culture and society.
