South Norfolk Council is setting up a scheme to celebrate outstanding individuals who have gone above and beyond during the coronavirus outbreak.

Named Covid-19 Community Heroes, the council is asking residents to nominate people through its Facebook page and social media channels.

Councillor Yvonne Bendle, said: “There are so many amazing people who have put the needs of others before themselves in my ward and across the district. I have been amazed by people’s kindness and selflessness and the overwhelming sense of community.”

One such example of strength in the community put forward by the council is the Harleston Kindness Help Hub, which was featured in the Diss Express at the start of the month.

The group of more than 40 people has been offering help to assist the more vulnerable residents in the area.

Jeremy Savage, district councillor for the town, said: “The help hub has made a huge difference to the lives of hundreds of our residents.

“They have literally saved lives through their incredible selflessness and kindness.

“Everyone who has contributed should be so proud of what they have achieved by working together.”

The council wants people to share their community heroes on social media, tag in the council and use the hashtag #SNorfolkHeroes.

Alternatively, people and groups can also be nominated by completing an online form at www.south-norfolk.gov.uk/covidheroes.
