Dr Thorneley, 51, died on June 5.

His family have now launched a fund-raiser for St Nicolas Hospice Care, who care for him in his final days.

The appeal says: “The page says: “We are heartbroken to share that our beloved Chris passed away following a courageous battle. In his final days, he was cared for with extraordinary compassion, dignity, and love by the team at St Nicholas Hospice.

“He was clear in his wishes: no flowers. Instead, he asked for those who wished to honour his memory to consider giving thoughtfully; whether through a heartfelt card or a donation to St Nicholas Hospice, whose care and kindness brought him peace and comfort when he needed it most.

“Your donation will help ensure that others facing the end of life, and their families, receive the same unwavering support and dignity that meant so much to him and to us.

“Thank you for keeping his spirit alive through your kindness.”

The family is planning a private funeral at a date to be arranged. You can donate to justgiving.com and search In Memory of Chris for St Nicholas Hospice.

Practice manager, Simon Round, added: “Chris was the nicest and most genuinely caring man you could ever meet.”

“It is a tragic loss.”
