Harleston Library celebrates 60 years of loaning page-turners

Book lovers were in their element in Harleston on Wednesday as the town’s library celebrated its 60th anniversary.

The Swan Lane library officially opened on December 11, 1963, but organisers decided to tie in their milestone with ‘Library Lovers Month’ which runs for the whole of February.

The event included things such as cakes for visitors to eat, book displays as well as a mini exhibition.

Ryan Watts, manager for Diss, Harleston and Long Stratton Libraries, said: “It was a smashing day with a brilliant atmosphere and so many people of all ages coming in.

“It felt like a proper community celebration, with the community we serve at the centre of it.”

“Harleston Library has been at the heart of its community for six decades and it was a joy, as a team, to have its celebration and we thank everyone for coming.

“This is the community’s building, not our’s; it has been for 60 years and that was really reflected at the event.”
