A home decor, jewellery and gift shop located in Harleston has claimed the region’s retail crown after shoppers voted it the winner of the 2016 South Norfolk Independent Retailer Awards.
Ajandek took home the Best Independent Retailer Award in a ceremony at the South Norfolk Council offices in Long Stratton last Thursday night, which celebrates local retailers with five shops or fewer across south Norfolk’s four major market towns.
The Market Place store also walked away with the Excellence in Customer Service Award for Harleston, following a voting process which attracted participation from more than 5,000 residents and visitors.
South Norfolk Council Leader John Fuller, who presented the awards, said: “Congratulations to Ajandek and well done on this great achievement.
Supporting a thriving local economy and working with our local businesses is a priority for the council and it’s fantastic to see the strength of support that our local retailers and businesses are getting from their customers.
“This competition celebrates the qualities that make our market towns stand out as unique and valued shopping destinations and we can be proud of the work done by our local businesses to make our market towns feel warm, welcoming and vibrant.”
Elsewhere amongst the Harleston-specific awards, the Card and Party Shop, in Market Place, won the Most Creative Window Display accolade, while Ray Munn Paints and Interiors, also of Market Place, was voted the Best Newcomer.
Meanwhile, in Diss, it was a clean sweep for shops found in St Nicholas Street.
Fairchild’s Tea Rooms picked up the Excellence in Customer Service award, while Albright’s was given the Most Creative Window Display, and Ninny’s Cave earned the title of Best Newcomer.
