Government to ban groups of more than six in coronavirus crackdown

As of Monday, the Government will ban groups of more than six people gathering in homes, parks, pubs and restaurants in England in an effort to stem the new rise in coronavirus cases.

The new rules imposed by Boris Johnson late last night are the biggest coronavirus crackdown since lockdown rules were eased.

First offenders will be fined £100, which will double on each further repeat offence up to £3,200.

The PM is expected to hold a Downing Street press conference later today to outline the new restrictions.
