Residents of Gislingham banded together last month to plant around 500 new trees on a prominent village green, as part of wider environmental revitalisation project.

Volunteers spanning all ages, including children from the local primary school, turned out at the Charity Meadow on December 13 and 14, where they helped with the preparation of the ground, clearing undergrowth and marking out the plots on the ground, before the planting drive commenced.

The trees were donated by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) as part of their tree planting initiative.
