Tabletop gamer, Wayne Gummer, opens Diss Games in Vince’s Road

A table-top gamer, who has grown his online trading business, has opened a shop in Diss to bring like-minded people together.

Wayne Gummer started a website in 2015 to help people buy and sell second-hand Warhammer models.

Thanks to its extraordinary growth and the need for more space, the 40 year-old has opened Diss Games in Vince’s Road.

“With the need for stock space for the online business, I thought ‘why don’t I get a shop front and a hobby place for people to play’,” he said.

“I put a post out on social media to see what people thought about the idea of the shop and I had 300 reactions and hundreds of comments, so I could see there was definitely an audience for this type of thing.”

Mr Gummer said his passion for table-top gaming grew as a child in the 90s. Although he put it on the back-burner for a number of years, he returned to it shortly before launching his own website.

“You get a lot of people who are playing the likes of Warhammer and Dungeons and Dragons who play it in their own spaces, so get very little chance to meet other people with the same hobby,” he said.

“Our long-term goal is to make Diss Games a hub for table-top gamers, whether it is normal board games, role-playing games or card trading games. Anything our customers class as a table-top game, we’ll help with.”

Although the shop opened on March 31, there will be an official opening on April 26, with a chance for people to meet other gamers, a model painter and experts on hand to talk people through an array of games.

The shop is also holding a free model painting competition, which can be picked up from the shop, for a chance to win £80 of store credit.

Mr Gummer said: “We want everyone to come down and be involved.

“You never know, they might find a game they can really get into and start a new hobby.”
