Free activity sessions run by Mid Suffolk North Safer Neighbourhood Team are to return following “positive feedback” from last year’s events.
Dubbed ‘Fun in the Sun’, the aim of the sessions is to provide young people with healthy and fun activities during the summer holiday and offer a relaxed environment for them to engage with officers.
The next sessions will take place at Eye Community Centre tomorrow, from 6pm to 8pm, and Rickinghall Village Hall on Thursday, August 20, from 10am to 1pm.
PCSO Abigail Durrant from Mid Suffolk North SNT said: “The feedback we have received from the sessions last summer holidays were very positive – from both parents and the youngsters.
Not only did the young people enjoy the days, they gained a better understanding about the Police Community Support Officer role and felt able to approach officers, on a first name basis, with confidence should they need support or advice.”
A spokesperson for the police said funding was sourced last year by the Children and Young People’s Integrated Service which provided the majority of sports equipment and polo shirts, while Stowmarket Rugby Club have continued to support the engagement events and provided tag belts and rugby balls.
They added community centre committees and parish councils in Stradbroke, Rickinghall and Eye have allowed the use of their playing fields and facilities for free of charge.
