Fine weather just the ticket for The Mid-Suffolk Light Railway at steam up event

Drinkers, train lovers and fine weather delivered the goods as a village attraction opened its doors for the first time in 2025.

The Mid-Suffolk Light Railway, known as The Middy, in Wetheringsett, welcomed fans of all ages to Brockford Station for its Easter steam up at the weekend.

The event proved a huge success and was boosted by locals dropping in to the site’s bar on Good Friday, helping it to raise thousands of pounds for its upkeep.

It was a busy day on the line for train officials.

John Reeve, The Middy’s marketing manager, said: “The bar opening raised a record £1,000 and ticket sales for the two days were just short of £7,500.

“With the combination of good weather, our locomotive gala and, of course, it being the Easter holiday, things could hardly have gone better.”

As well as a trio of locomotives taking to the tracks, visitors were able to enjoy an Easter egg hunt, before viewing the railway’s restoration shed and USAAF 34th Bomb Group museum.
