Fifty firefighters on scene of 'hazardous materials' blaze at factory near Parham Airfield
Fifty firefighters are on the scene of a huge blaze involving hazardous materials near an airfield this morning.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said 13 appliances have been tackling the fire at a large factory building at Parham Airfield near Framlingham – which was first reported at about 9.43am.
Officials say crews have now surround the fire at the premises, which is used in the production of fibreglass moulding, and are "making good progress".
All people have been accounted for and there are currently no casualties – although ambulance and police crews are also on scene.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: "They have put appropriate measures and cordons in place to ensure everyone’s safety, as with a building of this age it is possible that asbestos could be present."
Due to the volume of smoke coming from the incident, all local residents and businesses are asked to keep doors and windows closed.
Drivers have also been asked to avoid the area.
The spokesperson added: "All agencies are working closely together to ensure the public’s safety."
According to the fire service's incident log, appliances from Ipswich East, Woodbridge, Princes Street, Holbrook, Framlingham, Orford, Aldeburgh, Leiston, Stradbroke, Stowmarket and Haverhill are on the scene.
