Fake £50 notes circulating in Diss

Police are warning retailers to be extra vigilant after receiving reports of fake Scottish £50 notes being used to make purchases in retail premises across Norfolk.

Ten incidents of the fake notes being used in recent weeks have been reported in Norfolk including in: Diss, Thetford, Wymondham, Wisbech, King’s Lynn, Sheringham, Norwich, Outwell and Great Yarmouth.

Retailers are being urged to take crime prevention measures, such as using a UV light or a testing pen, which will indicate whether a note is genuine.

Anyone who is offered counterfeit notes, or has any information about those involved in the circulation of counterfeit money can contact Norfolk police on 101. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

For those incidents already reported, investigations are ongoing.
