Iain Dunn, 37, of Hutton Court, Eye, broke into a house on Willbye Avenue between August 21 and August 22 and stole the keys to a Ford Fiesta and crashed it into a ditch beside the A143 at Hepworth.

The owner of the car only discovered the missing keys and car when police arrived at his door following the arrest, Ipswich Crown Court was told.

Dunn, who was injured in the crash, pleaded guilty to burglary, taking a motor vehicle, driving with no insurance and whilst disqualified and failing to provide a blood sample to police.

Judge John Devaux sentenced Dunn to three years imprisonment and a 42-month driving disqualification was also imposed.

The court also heard the defendant was a long-term drug user who had consumed alcohol and sleeping pills before committing the offences.
