An Eye couple have celebrated their golden wedding by purchasing a new car – and are looking forward travelling around the East Anglian countryside.
Terry and Valerie Wiles, who married at St Mary’s Church, Halesworth, on March 13, 1965, held a reception at Eye Bowls Club at the weekend to mark the milestone.
Terry met Valerie, a care worker at the Nunnery Care Home, after he left the regular army and the couple married shortly before her 18th birthday.
Mr Wiles spent six years learning the building trade, after which the couple formed a limited company, specialising in house building.
They made their first home at Brockdish before moving to Diss and came to Eye in 1976 when their only daughter, Jackie, was a three-year old.
Asked what is the secret to a long and happy marriage, Mr Wiles joked: “Always duck when the wife throws something at you!”
