Eye couple celebrate diamond anniversary day

Memories of their wedding at Holy Trinity Church, Eastbourne, on December 28, 1955, were rekindled by Pat and Brian George, of Eye, who celebrated their diamond wedding with their family at the Grand Hotel.

They met at a dance when Pat was 18 and Brian was a few years older and their relationship “just took off”, leading to marriage three years later.

They have one son, Duncan, who was born in 1958, and one daughter, Charlotte, born in 1961. There is one granddaughter, Grace.

Moving to Suffolk in 1979, Brian, who had experienced a lifetime of teaching teenagers, became headteacher at the Kerrison Approved School, in Thorndon, taking early retirement in 1985. Pat was a popular teacher at Eye Primary School for 16 years, during which she became acting headteacher and deputy head.

A regular churchgoer, Pat was elected to the parochial church council and served as churchwarden at SS Peter and Paul’s Church, Eye, for eight years. The congregation on January 10 joined the celebration when the Rev Dr Guy Sumpter wished the couple health and happiness. A cake was provided by his wife, Lucy.

The couple said they had been blessed with good health and a lovely family and the most important thing was to love and care for one another.
