And, if you are lucky, you could be going as winners of an exclusive Diss Express competition for family tickets to the Christmas Eve matinee.

All you have to do is answer the following simple question:

Q. What is Dick Whittington’s animal companion?

Send your answer on a postcard with your name, address and telephone number or email address to: Panto competition, Diss Corn Hall, St Nicholas’ Street, Diss, IP22 4LB. The closing date is December 10.

The winner will receive tickets for two adults and two children, as well as Dick Whittington merchandise and a pre-show meal for the Christmas Eve performance at 2pm.

The pantomime opens on December 19 and will run until December 30, with, as reported last week, Matt Wainwright in the title role and Emily Spampanato as the sweet Alice Warren.

Every pantomime has its villain and, in Dick Whittington, it is the King Rat, who will be played at his evil best by Aaron Charles, repeating the role he filled at Shoreham last year.

Since training at the School of Creative Arts at Blackpool, his credits range from Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights and Rochester in Jayne Eyre to Stanley Stubbers in the modern hit play One Man Two Guvnors.

Countering the baddie is the Suffolk-based performer and choreographer Lizzie Stanley as Fairy Bow Bells. She has recently completed a UK tour of Irish dance show Emerald Storm and, before that, was in Untold Tales at the Marina Theatre in Lowestoft.

She was also in last year’s Diss Corn Hall version of Aladdin, which she choreographed and appeared in as the Slave of the Ring.

Appearing in his ninth consecutive panto – although only the second time in a frock – is James Austin Harvey, who plays Sarah the Cook.

He has been an ugly sister, Captain Hook and Mustapha Polo in Sinbad, and has also played Alderman Fitzwarren, father of Alice.

The show is directed by Sarah Langley who, during her dancing careeer, appeared alongside Kylie Minogue, Lionel Richie and Atomic Kitten and is an LP Creatives producer.
