Emergency services attend suspected chemical incident at Framlingham Pharmacy

Multiple emergency services attended a suspected chemical incident at a town pharmacy today.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue as well as the police and ambulance services went to Framlingham Pharmacy in Market Hill today at 9.29am after reports of a chemical spill.

When they arrived there was no spillage but a male member of staff was complaining of feeling unwell after entering a cellar containing a number of bottles due to be taken away for disposal by a waste company.

As a precaution the pharmacy was evacuated and a cordon established while fire service personnel wearing breathing apparatus entered the cellar to carry out checks using a gas monitor.

It did not identify any leaks and the scene was declared safe.

The worker was taken by ambulance to hospital for precautionary checks, along with another member of staff who also complained of feeling unwell.

The fire service, which had a unit from Leiston and Debenham attend, declared the incident closed at 1.50pm.
